I did a quick calculation on the price, and it will come out at about $800, with about $100 of extra bits 'n bobs like cables and such.

If you're getting 32 GB, might I suggest a Dell Precision T5400. Dual processors, supports up to 32 GB. They sell cheap on ebay, if you time it right. I'm building two off of two Precision 490 cases. Of course, two Xeon processors can be equivalent to one i7 with hyperthreading so buyer's pick.

Just out of curiosity, what is your "work"? Blender rendering? If it's just Blender, have you considered using renderfarm.fi? The processing power of thousands of blender users in the palm of your hand for free.

And what matters more? USB or processing power.

If you are going to be getting 32 GB of ram, you'll want to have a better processor or dual processors. I'd recommend investing in a motherboard that could take 2 i7s or 1 or 2 Intel Xeon precessors. Xeons have 6 cores each and i7s have 4 cores. You could take advantage of all that ram if you had dual processors.

Soooooooo, I'm building up a new PC for to do all of my work (and gaming) on.

I'll be putting about $1,000 into it, and I was wondering what components I should get.

I already know I'm going with an Intel i7 CPU, a NvIDIA GTX 400 or 600 series GPU, and a dual-graphics card capable motherboard.

Anyone have experience in this area?
