Juggernaut might be right BUT the Spy theme itself is pretty generic. A spy can be a CIA agent who's hunting down some international terrorist/assasin (which practically makes the spy a detective). A spy can be an undercover agent who joins some military group to reveal the war crimes of some dirty general/sergeant or whatever. In a funny situation a spy could pretend to be a nanny and protect the target's/villain's children while at the same time trying to search for the evidence proving antagonist's guilt. I really think that Spy film can include all the genres (Detective/Drama/Horror/Thriller and etc.) with the exception of Western movies because I just find it hard to imagine :D

An important thing to remember is not to get your spy film mixed with different subjects. What I mean by that is, you want to make sure it is a spy film, not a police officer acting as a spy (Though of course, some police officers are actual trained spies). It frustrates me when I see a detective film labeled as 'Spy Movie' because detectives aren't spies; the same thing frustrates me when I see police officers acting like the military. You need to make sure it's distinct and obvious that they're spies, otherwise some may be confused (This happens very frequently in actual live-action films).

Yeah like in a movie "Recruit" (2003) starring Colin Farrell and the awesome Al Pacino. I'm talking about:
Colin Farrell's character who is "recruited" by Al Pacino as a CIA agent only later to find out that he (Colin) hasn't been CIA at all.
What I always find that makes a film stand out is a twist ending. Like in the Bourne Supremacy when he:
Spys on Pam from the building across the street and then calls her.
That being said, I think that if you have a twist ending it has to be completely unexpected and yet very momentous. Something that shocks the audience or knocks their socks off. Either one is fine, but knocking socks off is more entertaining. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, it also shouldn't contradict the story or compromise it to much.
It's hard to come up with some new original spy movie idea. I've been thinking about making a spy movie myself (since I really enjoyed Bourne movies and despite the unoriginality in "Safe House" I loved that movie as well.)

Basic plots for spy movies are:
1) An agent is sent on some sort of mission. (mission impossible films)
2) An agent goes rogue for some reason (can be personal family reasons like his brother was kidnapped or something or it can be just simple greed for money so he steals something important and wants to sell it to some evil organisation) (Safe House)
3)An agent is betrayed by his own agency (like Bourne Identity, Jason failed the mission so the agency wanted to clean up the mess by eliminating it's own asset)

there are more basic plots like this I just can't come up with anything else right now. But if you're thinking about making exactly Brother&Sister short spy film I'd just make them go on some sort of mission because it's hard to develop some complicated story in just 4-5 minute length movie however I'd love to see some twist in your film :)

Your film, your idea so it's entirely up to you to decide what's best for it "The Magic Seeds" really proved that you can tell a great story without taking too much time (Magic Seeds was like 4 minutes right?). Good luck on your project Repelling Spider, I'm really looking forward to this!
Thanks so much for the long post! It helped me to think more about those basic plots. I need to watch some good spy films to gather ideas probably. And yes, The Magic Seeds was like 4 minutes. Glad you are looking forward to this project! :) I'll hopefully have some more info on it here in the next month or so.

You're so right, like you do in your animations. Action is our power. :)
Oh and I thought of a prime example to lend to this argument: Tom & Jerry. (probably one of my all time favorite cartoons)

On a more serious note, I still need to come up with a plot for this film. I want to break from the norm so it will require quite a bit of effort. Hopefully I will have a brilliant idea soon.

I've decided that its going to be a short film, and not an interactive adventure. While I hope to do an interactive video at some point, I think for this type of film it would be better not to do it. I'm hopefully going to start working on the script/plot soon and will post some more info when I have it. If you're wondering exactly what I mean by short film, I'm thinking probably around 4-6 minutes. I'm going to attempt to continue my bi-monthly video uploads during the filming process though, so it may be a few months before I am actually able to complete the filming for this. Thanks for everyones interest so far! :)

Yea but words can add to a story. It would be like watching Phineas and Ferb without sound! (not that this is phineas and ferb)

For those interested, a casting call won't be done until I have the script written most likely. I'm still early in development, so there is still lots to do. Thanks again for all of the initial feedback about the idea, its helped me quite a bit!

EDIT: I agree with ANP, I initially was going to have voice acting with A Date with Julie, but I ended up doing only sound effects and music which I thought conveyed the idea much better than voices would have. It all depends on the plot really.
