Here's a realistic star background that i found.
The ships were moving a bit slow, the stars were not realistic, and neither did the ships look realistic.
3/5.

A lot of work needs to be done. First, it didn't look realistic at all. You should smooth the bricks off and add gaps where different pieces connect. Look at Lechnology's tutorial for the basics here. Secondly, the lighting didn't look to good from what I saw; for space scenes, you should be using a sun lamp and a few fill lights. Third, the stars looked too large, and as a result, fake. Make the star size to be smaller in Blender, and perhaps turn up the color variation a tiny bit. Fourth, as was said earlier, make the animation smoother, because it seemed a bit choppy in the video (EDIT: Maybe you switched frame rates in Monkey Jam?). Fifth and final critique, you need to composite. Meaning, you have to add Depth of Field, color correction, motion blur, lens distortion, lens flare, chromatic aberration and others depending on the scene to increase realism (You could do this in Blender by using the Node Editor, or in an external compositor such as After Effects).

Overall, just practice, practice, practice. You'll get better in no time if you do! ;)
