Sorry, but I really have to bump this thread.
I used to use Bafran on my windows, but these incidents stopped me using it:

1: It screwed up and distorted the picture.
2: No matter how many times I exported the frame, it made a hole in the guy's head.
3: It self-corrupted a frame 2 hours after I exported it. (The frame turned white with black dots all over it)
4: It kept putting the support back in.
5: It exported each pic at 30 megabytes.
6: It kept screwing up the quality.
7: It changed the aspect ratio.
8: And finally, it brightened the picture considerably.

                    ^ Don't use Bafran.
Well, perhaps it would have been a good idea to report any of these Problems to the programmer (i.e. me).
I put my email-address in there for a reason but never got any bug-reports.
I didn't know of any of these bugs.
3. seems quite impossible to me, how could my program change a picture after it is closed.
4. I don't understand
6. I don't know what exactly you mean by this
8. I thought I had fixed that somewhere.

It really is a bit frustrating if one programs a tool, but gets no feedback on if it works. It is impossible to solve such glitches if I'm not aware of them.

Anyways, the Bafran version currently online probably is only suitable for beginners or for some special masking Tasks. Gimp is not really an Animation-Program, but still is a good choice I guess.
does gimp work on the mac?
Yes, GIMP works on Mac.

I'm not sure what else you'd really find for masking programs that are free. Unless you'd want to green screen it, then you could use iMovie, which is free with most macs.

My point is that I need a new FREE program that will mask images on a mac. :)
