The animation was smooth as you've stated, but to slow. When the shovel touched the sand and it just disappeared, I too thought it was strange. 

Be honest is that how you see people dig? What helps me if I act out what I'm going to animate, that way you can get natural movement, and how much force needs to be applied...]]></description>
