If voting for all categories is open to the public, then it's just a popularity contest. Doesn't really have much meaning anymore. When the shortlist is over three hours of films, it's pretty likely that many folks are just going to vote for a video they've already seen and enjoyed.

I see two issues with that:
1.) The amount of time to set up a poll that large — with that many categories, links to the videos, etc. — would be...unreasonable.
More importantly:
2.) The way polls are currently set up, everyone can see the current results before they vote. Not only does this ruin the element of mystery, but it can also cause people to vote for the most popular one(s), destroying the element of genuine choice.

It would require restructuring the entire polling system on the site, which means actually hunting down the code, redesigning it, making the changes (which requires the site to be offline), and working out any bugs that arise, which could take anywhere from two weeks to two months. Considering the list of things to do here, and that a site overhaul is currently in the works, a redesigning of the polling system is low on the list of priorities.

Actually, that not such a bad idea. Instead of having to count individual PMs, you could set up a vote like we did for THAC9. The process might go a lot faster.

That's a shame all around, NXT. Does anyone have a good idea to revive this? Doesn't seem right to just skip a year like it didn't happen. Plus- there are some really good movies in need of another round of glory. I haven't thought about it myself long enough to really offer any suggestions but I am a good sounding board...

How many people voted? I was one of the people who watched all of the videos and entered my ballot. Just found the email to verify I had done something. It was 4 and 1/2 months ago-my memory is a little shady. If you're having problems-just go with my votes. They're pretty spot on. :P
