But with halogens, you sometimes get ugly lines across your frames. That's what happened to me when filming Climbing the Ladder. At the time, I didn't know what was going on, so I just left it alone, resulting in me getting a bad score.

As I'm sure you know, lighting is very important. My first couple days with my Quickcam were rather shaky, as I didn't light sets properly, resulting in grainy footage. If you get a couple halogen lights and light everything up nicely you can get amazing quality for such a low price.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Your endorsement of a camera means a lot more than reading reviews on amazon. I'll give the C910 a try. With a little luck, I'll have some footage to show for it in a few months.

Choosing a new webcam

Hello all,

After 7 years with our old logitech webcam I'm finally getting around to looking for an upgrade. I've browsed the forums here some, and done some basic googling and I think I'm most interested in these two models:

Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 (or 9000)
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/webcams/devices/6816

Creative Live! Cam Socialize HD 1080 Webcam 1080
http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Live-Cam-Socialize-HD-1080/M/B004PHNRY0.htm

Can anyone here comment on either camera? Not surprisingly, I'm most concerned about lens quality, how easily it can focus on very small close up objects, and how easily I can manipulate the focus. Also the intangibles, how easily it fits into a LEGO set, how stable it is. Basically all the marketing for webcams focuses on their capacity for video chats, which I have virtually no interest in and is entirely unrelated to suitability for brickfilming. So any advice or comments from you all would be appreciated!
