I'm going to throw this out there and see what you guys think. When I submitted my THAC entry to the BIM directory I had a hard time coming up with a good category to put it in. I finally ended up with selecting "drama" because that's the closest one that described my film. So after saying all that I think there should be a romance category to select for your brickfilm. Yes I know brickfilms with love stories are few and far between but I still think that should be an option for submitting a brickfilm to the site. What do you guys think?

It's 2014 and I still haven't made a romance brickfilm, but it's still a thing I really want to do.
Really? 'Cause I thought that you had made an animation challenge awhile back, that had something to do with love. But now, I can't seem to find it on any of your YouTube channels.
The film exists if you know where to find it, but it isn't publicly avalable on YouTube anymore because I prefer to keep it as a consistent list of more proper videos I've created, and I never got on to uploading it to my alternate channel for things like this.

Here it is: http://youtu.be/D70DJzEfTqE

Though its theme is based upon infatuation, it's really much more of a simple one-joke film and doesn't actually tell a proper love story, nor do we ever get to see how that conversation went, nor what the woman thinks about the man.
I'm still rather fond of the heart pop/love at first sight animation, and I would like to use that again in something larger.
I still like the film, but considering it as a proper romance would be like me considering Charlie Grows Hair Dramatically the only proper drama I've created.

EDIT: Ah someone already got to the LEGO Love link before me.

You must be referring this this short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D70DJzEfTqE (I must say, it is quite funny for it's extreme simplicity.)

I met this actress at a coffee shop I go to regularly and have been talking to her about my film as well as a film that she was in which is currently in limbo, and when I finally finished my movie she told me if I ever needed a voice actor to let her know, and I said I was currently looking for a female lead for a new script and she literally ran to get something to write her contact info on.

It really is just about talking to people, even someone who is awkward like me can find out a bit about people I run into regularly. I'm going to be recording that actress for my next film in a few weeks, it's not a romance but it doesn't change the fact that people who are interested in acting are likely going to at least be willing to read your script to see if the project sounds interesting to them. Brickfilming is a really cool hobby, don't be afraid to tell people you are into it, if they like animation they might want to see more of what you do.

I'm not opposed to romance between minifigures at all. I'm sure we al did the "Mary and Bill" situation in our play-time, but it's making a film about minifigures falling in love... Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to take a minifigure seriously in any film. So if a couple of minifigures were on a romantic date, I would expect someone's hand to fall off in the soup or a clown to be sitting at the other table. Making the audience feel comfortable while watching the film is difficult. It would just feel really awkward to me to watch a romance with minifigures.
It doesn't necessarily has to be taken seriously. It just has to be romantic for the characters: if there's good chemistry between the two, then it can be the most ridiculous situation one might imagine, but you buy it (just look at Woody Allen's movies "Annie's Hall" or "Manhattan": one simply cannot take his character seriously, yet he created some of the most romantic scenes ever).
Even "someone's hand falling off in the soup" might be just the touch it needs to make it work: when dating someone, awkward and embarassing situations happen all the time, but whatever happens, it just feels good to them, they're happy to be with each other.
Don't worry about making the audience feel comfortable, think about the minifigures falling in love.
That is very well said, and inspirational. I guess I was thinking "romance" as in a more serious setting, but a romantic comedy is a completely different ball park.

One of my favourite romance stories ever is about a faceless pumpkin who falls in love with a creature that is a green mass of tentacles.

The reason the first 2 minifigures I got were named Mary & Bill was because those were the names of the two main minifigures in the Lego Idea Book from the late 1970s ("set" #6000) Here's the cover:

Mary is the one with the red dots on her torso & Bill has the blue stripes.
Coincidentally, I put my version of Mary & Bill in the background in the shot I animated today.

There was some pretty good romance in my favorite Brickfilm of the year, "That's the way it goes", between two sets of couples. It was well done, funny, and slapstick. There will be a romance in a future episode of my own series. I think it's a nice category that has a lot of potential to be explored in Lego.
...or in my case the "Hewkii and Macku" situation :)
That comes up way too much on Bionicle forums.

I never actually did that with my minifigs. Probably because my first 15 sets were Mars Mission. (Which lacked female minifigs.)
