I'm... not quite sure how to respond to that.

A quick Google search for "creating masks in Sony Vegas" yielded a couple of tutorials. I'd check them out and see if you have the same tools in your version that they're using. If you do, once you know how to use them, it'll be easy enough to adapt it to fit your purpose.

Be careful, though. Anything but a straight-on shot seems like it would be pretty difficult to do, especially if the head is turning mid-speech.

Masks sound like a pretty complicated tool for a video editor, so perhaps it's only available in the Pro version of Vegas. Have you checked your user manual?

You'll have to know what shape you want before hand and plan the timings accurately and read into how to mask as it'll be helpful.

No you can't use Vegas to lipsync. I have Vegas Pro 9 and there is no tool of the such. Smeagol used Axagon composer and Nick Durron uses After Effects to do mouth animation. Sadly After Effects costs a lot of $$$ and Axagon.... good luck learning it.... So don't really delve into mouth animation like FF101's because that looks pretty bad. (Guys please don't start a flame war on FF101 here) So just stick to normal basic body movement and language for now. ;)
