you should get a simple MiniDV Camcorder to start out with. Mine is a Panasonic PV-GS83. If you want to see what the quality is like, check out my youtube videos. Most of my stop motions are shot with it. Here is the link:

hope this helps

Also, if your a beginner (are you?) you should go with a webcam or camcorder. While Digital Stills Cameras produce great quality images, they are a complicated setup.

The best I'v seen by far for Camcorders!!!
So I'm really considering getting the Sony Camcorder like keshen8 except the best price I could find for it was $850 :(

Also to all those people who think I should get a digital still camera, if i did then I wouldn't be able to use all those great features like onion skinning, right???

Camcorders do not shoot good stills. Even high quality ones. Trust me; I own a $3000 Sony model, and I get better stills from my $70 Olympus still camera. Unless you have a non-brickfilming-related use for a high-end video camera, I'd go with a still. You'll get much better images for less money.

Hey guys, I'm searching for a camera that is compatible with my iMac as well as my animating software (iStopMotion2.) One of my big questions is whether i should buy a digital still camera or a Camcorder.
I think iv heard somewhere that Digital still cameras wont give you a live video preview with iStopMotion, unlike Camcorders (which is why I'm leaning towards buying a Camcorder.)

Is this true??

Also I'v heard people say that the photo resolution for Camcorders is rather poor and grainy, (which makes me lean back towards a digital still.) On the iStopMotion website they strongly suggest the Canon Hv30 but I'v heard people say it takes grainy pics.
Oh yea, does anybody know what camera Keshen8 uses? (If you don't know who Keshen8 is you should look him up on Youtube, he makes the best lego vids ever!!!)
SO MY QUESTION IS: SHOULD I GET A CAMCORDER OR A DIGITAL STILL AND WHICH MODEL/BRAND?
