Dr. Neo Lao, Bitcoin can be hard to set up, but the MultiBit Wallet is really smooth and easy. Just install, create a wallet, tell the app to set up a receiving address, and you're good to go. After that, you just cut & paste your receiving address to whomever you're requesting money from. MultiBit even has a copy to clipboard button. Another thing that's great about multibit is that it doesn't require an entire block chain to be downloaded to your computer, which is a loooong task for wallets that require it.

I love PayPal too. But one advantage of Bitcoin is that you don't have to give your email address to everyone in the world if you don't want to, and your personal information isn't shared like it often is under paypal.

I don't suggest mining for bitcoins personally, unless you really want to invest in it. But as a libertarian who knows that someone has to do it, I admire those who take on such ventures.

I'm looking into Flattr currently... a nice system, but again, it asks for a lot of personal information. It is similar to the tipping idea I had, though, and it's a good way to say, "nice job".

I had been looking into Bitcoin to use on a site I was helping out on and found it to be too complicated for the average user on that site. Something like Paypal which has a fairly simple set up and usage system worked better there. Plus having the option to receive payments from people without them even having to register an account with Paypal first was a big plus for that situation.

I had also looked into setting up a coin mine, but since I'd have to invest capital in setting up the computers (I didn't have any), it wasn't economical for me at the time (I'd have needed a fairly fast return on my investment, which didn't look promising at the time). Now that computers have gotten more powerful and cheaper, or for someone who has a bunch of spare computers lying around already, then it can be a bit of a money earner.

The increase of bitcoin's value (now stabilizing at around $384/btc) has caused the faucets to get stingier.
Wouldn't this kind of just be a more complicated version of something like Patreon?
I think it would be. While bitcoin is an interesting topic to bring up, I don't think it would yield enough of a reward to be worth establishing a tipping system, or at least not yet. Plus a lot of brickfilmers, myself included, aren't all that familiar with this system of currency.

@HOO, Patreon is basically a crowdfunding platform, though it's different from Kickstarter or Indiegogo. If you create a Patreon page, people can pledge an amount that they will donate per project you work on (or per month, you can choice between the two). You can also set goals and rewards. A goal could be as simple as "if I reach $30 per project, I'll run a regular Q&A on my channel" (sorry for the lame example). A reward could be "pledge $50, and each year I'll send you an annual DVD of all my work from that year".

I hope my explanation isn't too convoluted. If it helps, take a peek at my page. It's still in the experimental stages, and I haven't really publicised it, but I think it shows the general functions of a Patreon page. (I'm also not sure whether I want to leave this up, as it feels dangerously close to mooching, but that's a discussion for another time)

Sonjira, that's an awesome find! Was it a large penny? American pennies from before 1858 are large. (British ones from around then are large also)

Rivvm M, Bitcoin is a pretty interesting concept. I was curious about it because it has no central authority and its supply is controlled. That makes it a hedge against inflation, to those who consider bitcoin as an investment. There will never be more than 21 million btc, and right now, about 11 million are in circulation. One bitcoin is worth about $400 right now (down from $480, the average this year is around $233)

I took some bitcoin I earned and bought this:

Yeah dude, over the weekend my family was looking through all the stuff in my Grandma's old house. We ended up finding, in a case in like a drawer somewhere, a Copper penny from 1853. Basically uncirculated, almost mint condition, worth like $200. And they told me looking for loose change on the floor under vending machines would never pay off!
