From what I can tell (I downloaded the Hitfilm demo), Fusion is far more powerful than Hitfilm. Hitfilm seems to be a ready-made solution, with lots of presets, like fire, particles, and the sort. It also uses a timeline familiar with other video editors (like Sony Vegas), but effects are in a separate timeline, and from what I have seen are not too customizable. Fusion uses a Node-based editor, with 2D and 3D composting, unlimited possibilities of combination, but seems to have fewer presets. At first, the Hitfilm interface looks easier to use, and the Fusion looks more complicated and old, but interface is just skin deep. Fusion is much easier to use, with smaller buttons and more screen space, and a more customizable layout, and Hitfilm is mostly fancy, with large things, which fills up my small screen and doesn't make the workflow any easier. They both have motion tracking, but I have not tried motion tracking in either program yet, so I cannot comment on that,

I am used to a node-based editor from my experience with Blender, so I may be a bit biased, but in my opinion, Fusion is better. I like the 2D and 3D composting integration, nodes, slim interface, and expandability and the way you can customize everything and not have to rely on presets.

Thanks for the news! I have never heard of this software, but I am downloading it anyway. :P

I wonder if this is a temporary offer like Hitfilm being free earlier this year (unfortunately, I missed that offer. :( ). Either way, I've got it now. I'll tell you how it works for those who dont know (like me :P ).

EDIT: From my early examination, it is a very powerful program, and will be very useful. It has a learning curve, but thanks to the tutorials, it isn't such a large curve.

EDIT2: I also wanted to mention, that you don't have to put your real name, address, phone number, etc. in the box when you click Download, because it just goes to the next box with the link. I think that's more statistical stuff, instead of actually licensing. They haven't email me, and I cannot find in the software that this particular copy is licensed to me.

Fusion 7, a compositing program normally about $150, is free on the Blackmagic website. I believe this is a temporary offer (but don't quote me on that), but hey, it's free. :P I may or may not download it myself, since I doubt I would really be able to use it much, but some of you might find it useful. ;)
