I was suspicious from the start when I saw a HQ webcam for less than $30, and perhaps rightfully so. - It may not last as long. It looks like a Logitech C series is my best bet at this point. Thanks to everyone for helping me out! :)

Alright, so, it looks like Logitech has manual control support for all of it's webcams. Neat.
Look into the Logitech C series cameras.

The Logitech C920 is the best available webcam.
Alright, looks like I should look into the C series webcams then :P

It would be a little easier to compare two different cameras if the sets/figures were the same, but, I guess I can surmise what I can from what is supplied...

Putting image size differences aside for a minute, it looks like the C920 does have a slightly crisper image - especially around the edges. (Notice the lack of pixel-ization?) Thus, I'm assuming that it'd be a little better if quality is what I'm looking for. - Which, it is.

I guess I'll look into this a little more. :P Though, if I had to narrow it down between the 9000 and C920 right now, I'd lean toward the C920. Just around $100 is my budget, and all cameras so far seem to fall right under that. :) Thanks for the replies Squash and END films!

The Logitech C920 is the best available webcam but the Logitech 9000 is also good and about $10 cheaper on amazon.
Use the control software that you can download for free from the Logitech website for all manual settings- http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/webcams
(Don't use the software that comes with the 9000 on a disk (no manual white balance))

Auto-focus doesn't necessarily mean the camera isn't useful for animation- you just have to make sure that it has manual focus as well. To my knowledge the QC9K does allow for manual focus on Windows; that said I don't own one so you should definitely verify with someone that does.

The Inland does list a higher maximum resolution, but I'm not finding much else about it. Keep in mind that a higher resolution doesn't always mean the quality of image you will get will be better. At $17, it seems pretty likely that the sensor and lens on the Inland are not of comparable quality to the QuickCam.

Finally, the QuickCam 9000 has been a popular choice in the past, but keep in mind that there have been cameras released by Logitech since the 9000 that have better quality and sell for a similar price. Look into the Logitech C series cameras. I believe we have a few people here who use them, and they have better specs than the 9000.

I'm going to buy myself a new webcam for brickfilming. Currently, TheLoginProductions and I share the same webcam - a pretty cheap one that came with a package someone got me once. However, it's quality isn't that great, and sometimes I forget to switch it's resolution to it's highest. The result of this is: http://www.bricksinmotion.com/films/view/4377 vs http://www.bricksinmotion.com/films/view/5435 . Quite a difference, I'll admit!

So, while surfing the internet (do people still say that? well, I do) I've found two pretty cheap (under $100) webcams: The Inland 3 megapixel webcam, and the "fan favorite" Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. Though I'm leaning more towards the Logitech, I see that it has a slightly lower megapixel level, not as high quality, and claims to have "auto-focus." If such a webcam (the Quickcam) has auto-focus, then it's bad for brickfilming, right? - Or can I manually focus the 9000? Another factor is that the Inland is a little cheaper, at only $17.99 vs the $74.99 of the Quickcam Pro 9000.

I currently use a modified version of MonkeyJam for animating, however, wouldn't be against switching to Helium Frog. But, I'd assume that both webcams work with each program.

Some advice/help would be greatly appreciated, as, I'm at a little bit of a stand-still here. If enough people sway me, I'll go with one or the other, though, right now, with the price, features, and resolution of the Inland, I'm debating on buying it at this point...
