What if someone said this about Wookiees? I don't own an Ewok toy and I don't know anybody who ever did.
That's mostly because the marketing and merchandising was made when the film came out. And also, just because you don't own an Ewok toy nor do you know anyone who owns one, that doesn't negate the fact that they were created for the sake of making toys. I don't know anyone either that owns one, probably because people bought they toys when the film came out.
but oh my god do you really have to go on saying sexist things like all girls don't care about films unless cute things are there. Really. Don't do that. Like I don't know if all the time I've been spending on tumblr has caused me to interpret things for the worst, but just stop inflicting gender roles. This goes for you too George, and all your film director friends.
I'm not being sexist, I'm being realistic. I wish it weren't true that many girls only remember the Ewoks, but that's just the way it is. No sexism included.
Almost any time a sequel to something is made, it's about getting money!!
I do have to agree with you there, but not in the case of the Star Wars Original Trilogy. I believe there was a time where Lucas actually cared about these characters and wanted their story to grow and develop.
But the question is, why would Wookiees not get Lucas anymore money than Ewoks? Objectively they have equal appeal as cuddle objects.
The Wookies wouldn't have made as much money as the Ewoks because they aren't as cute as the Ewoks. Yeah, I guess it is objective, but the Ewoks would win in a landslide if it were voted on.
Were they not "manly" enough for everyone's beloved trilogy? If that's why you don't like them, and you don't like Jar Jar because he wasn't serious enough for the film, grow up. There is a lot wrong with Star Wars but I don't think those two things are part of the problem.
It's not they weren't "manly" enough, it's that they were strikingly out of place for what was put out in the first two films. And it wasn't that Jar Jar wasn't as serious, it's that he was freaking annoying.
OF COURSE it's about making money!!
Wait, then what's the point of this argument?

If that's your mindset, George Lucas has already won.

George Lucas created them just to sell toys. And plush Ewoks. And future children Ewok spin-offs. Just ask any normal girl, "Do you remember anything from Star Wars?" Most likely their response will be "Oh I do remember those cute little teddy bear things!" Cuteness is a money-maker. And George Lucas only cares about money.
What if someone said this about Wookiees? I don't own an Ewok toy and I don't know anybody who ever did. I don't think I've ever seen one for sale, except for the lego ones (duh.) but oh my god do you really have to go on saying sexist things like all girls don't care about films unless cute things are there. Really. Don't do that. Like I don't know if all the time I've been spending on tumblr has caused me to interpret things for the worst, but just stop inflicting gender roles. But the question is, why would Wookiees not get Lucas anymore money than Ewoks? Objectively they have equal appeal as cuddle objects. So I don't see why you are so paranoid about me *gasp* liking the Ewoks! Were they not "manly" enough for everyone's beloved trilogy? If that's why you don't like them, and you don't like Jar Jar because he wasn't serious enough for the film, grow up.
This is getting monotonous, anyhow:
- There was a severe lack of creative direction/plot in the film. It was incredibly predictable.
- There was a general absence of the wit, depth and excitement that went hand-in-hand with the previous films.
- The whole film was smothered with stupid and severely overused CGI.
- There was pitifully little character development, especially between Indy and his newfound, annoying son.
- Some characters were completely out-of-sync with their previous selves, see no longer feisty Marion.
- Incredible amount of stupidity, see surviving nuclear detonation in a fridge.
- No or meagre attention to detail.
- Questionable ending, whether it was intended or not.

@FlyingMinifigure You cannot be seriously defending that atrocious Indiana Jones and the Skull-numbingly dumb Crystal Temple, can you? It was rife with sup-par acting (see Cate Blanchett and the majority of the characters) and a charmless, cynical and snarky older Indiana Jones. That aside, the amount of incredibly questionable actions and choices within that film was huge. The rainforest destruction, the cringeworthy atom-bomb survival, Steven Spielburg shamelessly attempting to emulate Close Encounters of a Third Kind, were all examples of such contemptible decisions. And to cap it all off, they completely destroyed the culture and monuments of that pagan native culture, and then had the nerve to end the movie in a pristine white, christian chapel. How unprofessional is that? Indiana Jones lost it's charm with that instalment. That is why I dislike that movie with a passion.
It's a MOVIE. Some of your problems with the movie are based on political passions. The events in the movie were fictional, and weren't trying to symbolize any kind of political message. There are movies like that and get preachy with their message, but not this one, as it didn't even have a message to preach.

I wouldn't quote Lucas on anything. A while back he said he'd only planned three films, and before that he said he had already written all six Episodes - even when there is footage of Lucas writing the first draft of Episode 1 a few years before production began, and also footage of Lucas producing the first draft of Episode 3's script to the art department (yes, the pretty visuals and action set-pieces were all being developed before the script was written...and it shows). He says that originally Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were two separate characters, so obviously he didn't think about Episode 1 until much later.

The film adaptation of Lord of the Rings has been around only for a relatively recent time; it's only been 10 years since Return of the King came out. Most of the people who grew up with and were inspired by LotR have only recently become adults/started working in the film industry. Star Wars, by contrast, has been around for nearly 40 years, and the generation that grew up with it is much older and more well-established. Besides, you may not have heard a specific director who said he/she was inspired by LotR, but it would be foolish to deny the impact it's had on our culture. It basically created the Fantasy genre, and is just as influential, if not more so, than Star Wars is to their respective genres.

@Legocloniac477 and @starlego
Star Wars is the best saga ever made.
That is what I was responding to.

@FlyingMinfigure I do agree that Indiana Jones is quite outlandish, and I apologise for failing to specify my lack of inclusion of the Temple of Doom. Many people don't even count Star Wars episodes I, II and III as part of the saga, in that same way, I just ignore the Temple of Doom in Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones is certainly not better than Star Wars, but it's still one of the most memorable and notable sagas of the 20th Century.

I have nothing against Christianity or white churches, I just found the conflicting jump between the two extremes to be unprofessional and brash, much like many other things in that movie. The degree of unprofessionalism in both acting and simple directorial choices within that film likely fosters my distaste for it.

I had to get that out of my system, and as you said, let's move on now! :)
