I see your point Mickey I am the biggest Star Wars and love Lego Star Wars but they are definitely over doing it with that line. I have not been inspired for awhile in any of the new sets and for the exception of the set with Jango Fett there is nothing I really want. Lego develops some great sets but it annoys me how they don't stick with them I E the Dino series and Monster Fighters. Yet they waste time on TMNT?
Lego is the top dog I agree and there mini figs are unbeatable but like I stated I keep an open mind and if there is something non Legi that is great I will buy it. Kre- o is making some good choices and it is a shame Lego
dropped the ball on getting Star Trek. Again lets do TMNT.
And character builder is another nice company with some nice stuff.
There Doctor Who is really nice.
I have all 11 of there doctors and Tardis and Daleks and Cyberman.
Lego is great but they really have to think but more out of the box.
Yeah, I guess I partly agree with you sometimes. I still like to be open-minded about alternate bricking. Like, people are sometimes so hardcore Lego purist that you'd think they are worshiping Ole Kirk like a god. And because of this overly loyal following, TLG takes us for granted and thinks they can just do whatever and we'll buy everything. I know that's not 100% true but that's part of the reason prices in Lego have gone up. Their claim to quality gives them almost a complete monopoly on the market even though there are a number of other competitors. At least Kre-O gives the effort to engage with the brick community.
Listen, I'd love to have this conversation with you guys sometime but I don't think this is the right place to have it. Anyway most of what we are saying has already been said back when Kre-O first was created.
Well, as long as it doesn't get out of hand I don't see any reason not to have it. It might be somewhat off-topic, but I wouldn't mind having an in-depth discussion. People have been commenting on how the site's been empty lately, so I think this might be a great chance to revive the discussion somewhat. Though I suppose it's up to the mods.

It's not so much about being hardcore as a lack of alternatives. You really can't be "open-minded" in the case of clearly superior and inferior products, it's as simple as that. If Kre-o were superior to LEGO, I might just be tempted--but the fact that they're not, and that Kre-o isn't even trying to be original, means that there's no chance of me even considering it. Even then, I suppose I've got something of an attachment to LEGO (since I've been building with it for years) so I still wouldn't do it. LEGO is the original, most iconic, and best and I can't even imagine anything that could possibly replace it--as Sonjira put it, the Classic Minifigure always comes out on top.

I do agree that LEGO might seem somewhat aloof, but there really isn't any viable alternative so I'd still buy it regardless. I'm not going to suddenly switch to another brand because of some non-communication from LEGO. I'm not very happy with the direction LEGO has taken lately, with childish and painfully cheesy themes such as Ninjago and Chima and an overload of Licensed Themes to boot, but it still is vastly superior to any clone brand. Plus, they have made ReBrick and have sponsored loads of contests of late.

Also, LEGO's prices have been fairly consistent over the years; I think the increase might be due to the plastics or the economy.

Personally, I don't really care for other types of bricks and brands, mostly just because LEGO is so much more convenient to get, and because they seem to have a long history of quality. The other brick brands, however, do not. Plus, I really do not like any of the other companies minifigure designs. The classic LEGO Minifig will always come out on top.

Plus, it doesn't really matter to me that LEGO is not engaging the brickfilm community. Actually, they're already doing that with the aforementioned ReBrick and Tongal. Again, they have made many steps forward in recent years.

But I digress. The above video is actually really good. I like all of the special effects, as they don't feel to overused or tacky. The animation isn't bad, either.

Really? That's pretty awesome.
Oh my goodness, if you see him please tell him congratulations! I love seeing fandom people recruited to work for the actual thing!
The reason Kre-o is (rightly) despised is because they shamelessly rip-off LEGO and produce inferior-quality knock-off toys. I mean, even the name sounds like a bootleg brand! I seriously wonder how can they even expect people to take them seriously when they so obviously plagiarize LEGO.[/rant]

It's interesting to note that the official LEGO YouTube channel has over 130,000 subscribers while the Kre-o one has about 4,600. Niceness might be, well, nice, Topit, but that's still no excuse for ripping off quality brands. And I'm guessing that Kre-o's presence on this site was probably motivated by an attempt to attract customers. It would be admittedly extremely awesome to have an official LEGO admin on this site, but the absence of one is hardly going to persuade me to stop buying LEGO or switch to Kre-o.

Besides, I don't think it's fair to call LEGO control-freaks anymore; they seem to have loosened up their copyright laws a fair bit (though, with brands like Kre-o, it's no wonder they've been overprotective). After all, they tolerate the existence of this site, they had the LEGO Studios theme--specifically designed to help people brickfilm--and they've commissioned quite a few brickfilmers (Hazzat, Mobdeli, Paganomation) to make shorts for them.

Anyway, setting aside my complete hatred of rip-off brands, and the fact I know next to nothing of Star Trek, I must admit this film was really quite well done. The animation/SFX was great. The fourth-wall jokes and general tone was very well done and refreshing to see, and some of the lines were wonderfully cheesy. If only it had been made with LEGO.

I probably spent way too much time writing this.
