Yeah, don't see the point of putting it on blu-ray. Also, back on topic, did you look at the c920? I linked it above (on amazon). If you want tech specs, look here and here.
So I don't know what your budget is, or exactly which camera you have currently, which would help. So, maybe check out the c920.
Hope this helps. :)

The Canon Powershot cameras sound like they're what I'm looking for. I'd rather shoot with the full HD and deal with the technical problems for now, rather than downgrade to HD 720. But the Canon 1080 cameras are out of my price range for now. I'll watch the secondary market to see how the price changes over time. I already have the software to render 1080p HD video, and, in fact, I have a 1080 HD rendering of the first episode. I'm just waiting for an affordable blu-ray burner to make Holding Our Own available on blu-ray. Thanks, and I'm open to more suggestions!

Backyard - Actually, I have the Logitech c920, and use Heliumfrog, and can get full 1080p with it. It has full manual control, remote capture, and costs $75 on Amazon.

Besides the c920, I believe there are a few canon powershot cameras that have full 1080p, manual controls, and remote capture. These cost in the $200+ range, I believe. If you don't want to spend that much, and are willing to have 720p (still HD quality), then I recommend any of the canon powershots, like the a2300 or the a4000. Both are under $100 on Amazon. For examples of the quality of the canon powershot series of cameras, watch NickDurron's vids (he uses a canon powershot a640), and watch Nathen Wells' vids as well (a85).

Just some cameras that sound like what you're looking for, so I hope this'll help you.

It's a good thing you don't want something with 41 MP, because that doesn't exist. :P Most of my knowledge is in the realm of DSLR's, but it doesn't seem like you're really looking for one. I know there are some webcams out there, but to get full HD with those you're going to have to spend money on animation software. I think there are some point and shoot cameras that can be controlled remotely, but I would be wary about the rather finicky "manual" modes on those cameras, which frequently aren't entirely manual. I guess you need to know what you're willing to pay and what you want out of your camera to narrow down your search a bit. :)

A year ago I received the camera I use for brickfilming as a Christmas gift. It was a Sony Cybershot, and one of the reasons I decided on trying out brickfilming was that it shoots at exactly HD resolution (1920 x 1080). But there are two things about the camera that make it difficult to animate smoothly.

1: The camera does not have a manual focus, which I've deducted as the source of the light flicker in my films. If you watch "Holding Our Own", you can see that I've significantly reduced the light flicker from the beginning to the end (I animated it chronologically). But there's always some variance, even though it's more subtle. It's more pronounced when I animate closer to the objects I'm filming. That makes my close-ups look worse.

2: I can't take photos remotely, and sometimes the camera brace is not sufficient when pressing the shutter, as even a fraction of a millimeter's movement makes a difference in Lego's marco environment. After watching the excellent work in the AQUAMAN VS BATMAN series, I see what a difference stability makes. The HD resulution is something I really want, though, because I get the clarity without resizing or interpolating the image, and without the file size per photo becoming giant!

I'm considering buying another camera on the secondary market. I don't need a 41mp product or anything with bells and whistles, but one that can get the above job done. Or: does anyone know of a remote device for the Sony CyberShot series that at least takes care of problem #2?

THANKS!!!!
