Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this information, I was actually wondering if you can help me, as you know yes I am now using helium frog but also i just recently got Sony Vegas 9 I was wondering if  you knew any videos or have any experience with it?

This is true.  Although "Holding My Own Ep 1" is my first brick film, I've done some hand-drawn animation in the past, one which appeared in a film festival.  The animation pioneers Harman & Ising have a great list of animation tips that translate into Legoland.  One is (I don't have the exact quote on hand): The audience requires the first four to six frames to identify what's on the screen.  I put about eight frames in before moving.[/quote]


Oh cheers mate, thanks for your reply tbh I just bought sony vegas 9 today which I'm really proud of though I'm in need of alot of assistance with it, if you can help it would be very much appreciative and once again cheers for your comment!

			<content type="html"><![CDATA[@Pritchard Studios thanks man I really appreciate you getting back to me, it wasn't on putting the frames together it was more just how to do the pauses once i got to post-production stage, but your answer has helped me thank you for that, and in future I'll be sure to try to hunt those items for you to get more answers from you ! 

I will be starting my third test today, mainly practicing to getting the walking lego to be smooth.

			<content type="html"><![CDATA[You're confused on what to do with all the frames after their captured? Try looking for a "Make movie" button. :eh:

[b]Disclaimer: The below advice is based on what I have heard about Helium Frog, and is not based on any personal experience.[/b]

I believe with HF to achieve pauses you will either need to capture that many frames, or do it in post-production. Onion skinning ain't that necessary, and when compared to having the raw frames backed up, as well as being able to directly manipulate them in the capture software, I think you should stick with MJ.

Now, should you switch, this is how you would create the necessary pauses in post.

With WMM, all you do is split the clip, and then import one of the original frames into the gap. That, or simply click the screenshot button. (I think that's how it works, but I haven't used it in a while.) 

With Vegas, it's a bit more complicated. It doesn't have a handy-dandy split feature that I know of. And I'm not sure if it's just my copy, but the screen shot feature doesn't work. What I sometimes do is bring in another copy of the clip, cut each one to the same frame, then bring in that original frame, stick it in the middle and adjust its length as needed. The problem with this is it causes a noticeable bump when going from clip to frame. I get around that by bringing in another clip and cutting it down to just the one frame, then stretching it out to the needed length. If it can't stretch that far, (Which commonly happens) I simply copy/paste.

Oh, and don't forget....[spoiler]You have now used all of your "Inquiry after information" wishes. If you wish to consult the Oracle of Awesomeness again, (AKA, Myself) try to figure the problem out on your own first. Then, if you can't find a solution, there is only one way that I will actually answer. First, you have to do the hokey-pokey, while reciting the ring-inscription (In Black-speech no less!) and eating an ice-cream sandwich all at the same time. And then you must bring me the Crimson Gumdrop, Jack Darter’s hat, Barry Hollows’ Oscar trophy, a pancake from Pancake Island, and three chocolate chip cookies. Then, and only then will I answer the question.

....Do all that, or if you just can't figure it out, just say please. But truthfully, most questions can be solved by simply searching the forums for a little while. Since chances are, someone before you has already posted about the issue.[/spoiler]]]></content>

The reason I asked was mainly because I did use it and I understand it, I am just confused what to do after I have done all the frames, I have searched on google, and did not get any results, and as BiM is a fantastic and helpful community I turned to here  to hopefully get an answer, If you would know and are able to help me I'd really appreciate it, pretty much all I wanted to know was simply how to pause using sony vegas 8 or doing it with windows movie maker to allow it to run smoother yet allow volume to match the lego talking.

You are doing great and all the help you've gotten is excellent, but I just felt the need to say that some things you just learn by trying them out for yourself. Tutorials are great and all, but you can't have one for every movement you're going to make.
For example, it isn't necessary to ask people how helium frog is. Simply do [url=http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Helium+frog#]this[/url], download it, and try it out for yourself.
I don't mean to be mean or sarcastic, I'm just trying to help you out as well.

(PS I can see you're from Australia, so you're evidently a native speaker. Do your think you could work on those run on sentences and capitalize your i's? Sorry I just can't stand bad grammar. If you aren't a native speaker, obviously ignore this.)

The thing is if i use helium frog, i wouldn't expect to have the frames shown like it did on monkey jam and be able to move it around and expand it, so for helium frog it gives you onion skinning but doesn't give you that option, if this was a good way to go would i need another software for editing it such as sony vegas or windows movie maker? and how would i be expanding it for the voices through the pictures or through the actual avi? I know you said stretch frames, i just want to be sure it would be the same, but please give me your honest opinion once you reply i will begin my third test right away.

In that case you have two options:
#1. Simply keep mashing the capture button until the required number of frames have been taken.
#2. Drag the first, already captured frame down and stretch it into the required number of slots. 

I recommend #2. If you keep hitting the capture button, chances are some teeny-tiny differences will show up in between the frames, and while for a moving picture this is fine, with nothing else going on, those become painfully obvious. If by some shear luck there are absolutely no differences in between the frames, then there is no reason to [i]not [/i]do the former other than the speed and ease of stretching the one frame.]]></content>

To add pauses, all you need to do is make copies of a single frame to make it last longer on screen.

Using your example; that line would take one movement, say a arm raising then lowering. Pause on the "who", raise the arm up during the "are", and lowering it during the "you".

It's also a good idea to add some pauses (I usually do eight frames) at the beginning and end of a shot (a shot is from one camera angle change to the next). You might need more or less depending, though.]]></content>

@Adalbertus hey man thanks!, Yer patience is the key, its hard for me as when i start something i just want it done! But im understand patience and why its so important, yer im using a webcam but its a great webcam man, its 15MP and its glass lens with full HD video up to 1028-720 so i must have the settings wrong which ill work on.

Goodluck on your brick filming to, i wish you all the best, and i agree with you when hobbies become serious it can be stressful but tbh i am up for the challenge! i don't have a lot of internet atm so i can't watch tutorials but when i do i definitely will be there are so many amazing brick films out there its unbelievable i hope to be good one day and be able to have fans who love my work.
