The thing is, though, LEGO already does this with all of their stop-motion and CGI films. I'm not saying that this is a bad concept — Robot Chicken did an absolutely hilarious sketch based around this — but it's kinda been done a lot already, even within the brickfilming community.

That said, when a child plays with toys, do they base their adventures around the limits of the objects they channel their imagination through, or do they look past that? Did Andy imagine Woody with a still, plastic face, and Buzz without the power to fly on his own? I speak for myself when I say this, though I'm sure other people might feel the same way: I don't animate with LEGO because that's all I want to do. Before I ever started animating with LEGO, I wrote stories on an old word processing program on a Performa computer. I wrote mysteries, fantasies, and about anything else I was interested in at the time. Then LEGO Studios came out, and suddenly I found a new medium through which I could tell my stories. Animation. For me, I don't think it was ever about bringing LEGO to life as much as it was about bringing my stories to life, through brickfilming, because I didn't have the resources to do CGI, hand-drawn or claymation.

Legos, when it comes down to it, are no more than a building toy. It's your imagination that brings them to life.

I believe that that if we throw around the"building"concept to our characters it would really show lego haters that brick filming is a talented hobby and legos are more than building toys on the down side though the more people who start brick filming the less unique we seem. the only video ive seen that hints at the minifigs building is Battle of the Brick, Built for Combat: the Movie by KOOBERZ STUDIOS

I agree with you. I think that the art of Brickfilming still offers a lot, but a lot of people just haven't taken the time to go on a journey to discover new things. I include myself in this area, but I've been wanting to try new techniques and maybe even discover some stuff along the way. Part of me is a little hesitant about it, primarily because people like the videos that I make now and some of my viewers probably will not like some of the things that I may end up trying out. In spite of this, I really would like to explore the capabilities of LEGO in stop-motion.

I realize that didn't exactly relate directly to what you are saying, but it has some connection. I think that having the Minifigure's interact with the actual bricks more would simply be a different way of approaching Brickfilms. It's not something that everyone should do of course. We should all try different things and keep the art of Brickfilming diverse.

Yes, I try to put in a few things into my brickfilms that make it feel like Lego.

One thing is sound design. I've made a bunch of sounds with Lego pieces that can be used for things like: hand hits, stud connections (includes footstep sounds), pieces moving around, ect. They give the effect of things sounding like Lego. AnnoyingNoisesProductions does this in his films, I've learned (from him) how to do a few of the sound effects he makes.

Something else I'd use is if something got destroyed (reduced to pieces), it can be rebuilt. I can also use this concept with minfigures themselves, which adds to the cartoony feeling that I want my films to have.

I do agree that people should explore more with animating at the level of the basic brick in their brickfilms. It's easy to get stuck in the rut of simply animating minifigures and treating animation like a traditional film. LEGO is a medium that allows for endless creativity and customization, so it'd be neat to see that take some precedence over static sets and minifigures walking/talking upon them.

Since I'm a younger brick filmer i tend to be finding myself watching more and more movies to find what i can recreate in lego and that some times means watching clutch powers or ninjago and the more i think about it lego puts out that lego minifigs are good at building, scratch that, the best at building. so why don't we brick filters explore that. What i'm suggesting is that we need to show that the minifigs need to build things in our videos. Ive always thought of this as a bit of a standard for lego videos. Now i have the lacking of software to do such things but i was thinking that maybe someone here could explain how to do so
