You can find TONS of good deals on eBay; just watch out for bad sellers & check how used the lenses are.

There are also some good deals on older, Canon FD lenses, though you will lose some light and have to get a more expensive adapter to use them.

Just some thoughts on how to get a (kind of) cheap DSLR kit going.

I've tried all three (DSLR's, webcams and digital cameras) and while you can argue about webcams over DSLR's, you shouldn't be using a digital camera for filming. Why? Because most digital cameras aren't compatible with tethering (Connecting you cam to the computer) and a lot aren't remote compatible either, leaving you to touch the camera when filming. Most digi cams also don't have manual controls or focus, which are imperative to brickfilming. If you were to find a digital cam with all of the above features, that's great! If not, then I would seriously consider purchasing either a webcam or a DSLR if you're dedicated (If you're going after a webcam, try either the C910 or 9000 from Logitech).

If I was given a choice, I would get the DLSR. Yes, this may sound unreasonable, since a webcam does satisfy all of my need for brickfilming, its just that I may not be brickfilming at times. During this period, I would be able to use the dslr camera for other things, unlike a webcam, which can only go the lengths of the cord. This is what I do with my camera. I brickfilm with it, then when I put my sets and stuff away, I can go do other things with that camera.

Also, it seems as if all cameras reduce light flicker tremendously when compared to a webcam (for me anyways...)

No, just a simple USB cord should work. And you'll need some software, try Anasazi Stop-Motion Animator, HeliumFrog, or MonkeyJam. Did you get a CD-ROM with the camera? It might have some remote capture software on it.
not sure if it came with a cd-rom i'll check, and i'll look around for a chord & check out one of those softwares, thanks a lot :)

I know there are loads of people who started out with DSLRs, that's just my personal opinion, and I plan on saving up for a DSLR in the near future. I don't think that you can see the difference on youtube. unless your brickfilm is going to the movies, I would say that a webcam is fine.
