BUMP.

Okay, so after working with Virtual Dub for a bit, I just can't seem to figure out the audio system in the program (Making the audio shorter, longer etc.). So now my question is: how does the audio system in Virtual Dub work? I can never understand it, and would like to know so that I wouldn't have to compress the videos in WMM too much.

Adobe products aren't in the budget currently, that may change in the future, but right now that unfortunately isn't an option.

Aero, I've wanted to upgrade the RAM on the computer for a while now, but I never get the opportunity to shop for things like that (Hopefully that will change soon).

You could try the free trial of Final Cut, or Sony Vegas, I heard someone (I can't remember who it was) used to get the free trial of Final Cut, then after the trial was over they would reinstall their computer software (Mac OS X) and download the free trial again. It's pretty much like you have the program.

The title says it all. I want some good editing software that won't bog down on the compression as badly as Windows Movie Maker does. I/we attempted to use Virtual Dub, but it was too confusing and I couldn't find any helpful tutorials or training on it. I also attempted Lightworks, which would work, but the RAM on the computer we're using is far too low for LW. Lastly, I tried Avidemux, which turned out horrendously. I would be fine paying for good software (I.E. Sony Vegas), but unfortunately, money is a problem right now (At least until the 25th).
