For every (mostly recent) crap movie, Nic Cage has an awesome performance in an earlier film.

He was great in Raising Arizona (favorite performance and comedy), Kick-Ass (fun!), Matchstick Men, Face/Off, and Adaptation.

2. Nic Cage is one of those people who cannot do wrong. Seriously: 'The Wicker Man' is one of the funniest bad movies I have ever seen in my life - and its all due to Nic Cage running around in a bear costume punching women. Without him, that movie would suck....but it doesn't, because it gave us "NO! NOT THE BEES!! NOT THE BEES!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!" and "HOW DID IT GET BURNED!!!"

Nicolas Cage is some kind of acting anomaly. When he wants to, he can turn in a really breathtaking, nuanced performance (Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, and Matchstick Men are proof of this), but he's also capable of going so far off the over-the-top deep end, but never once do we discredit him. Because of this, there are so many things that no other actor other than Nic Cage could ever hope to get away with without losing the audience's suspension of disbelief.

Watching this scene again, it occurred to me that Cage is the only actor I can think of who could pull off a scene threatening two old ladies at gunpoint and make it hilarious (I still crack up every time he says "You're f**ks! I hate you, I hate you both!"). Leave it to Werner Herzog to craft a film that seems tailor-made to fit all of Nic Cage's strengths as a performer.

His manic energy also has the ability to make otherwise unwatchable films watchable. Case in point, Deadfall.
