Re: Christmas Puppy Love

Wow, you've done a fantastic job here, especially considering the LEGO dog piece's limited poseability. The snow works well - is that sugar? Must be a nightmare to clean off afterwards. As far as story, this is really heartwarming and fun to watch.

An instant holiday classic. Very enjoyable from start to finish.
I can't imagine how difficult it was to film with all of that 'snow' and trying to make it look perfect at all times.
I'd love to see some behind the scenes photos and comments about the making of this film.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

That was a really fun watch, very nice job.

Man, that snow must have been a pain, though. Perseverance, m'lad!

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

Wow, the lighting in this was epic. Your animation definitely improved, and the snow was awesome!

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

Great movie, loved the snow and how well you animated without messing it up.

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! I'm glad you all liked the story. I was afraid it would be hard to understand, without voices and without proper music (I wanted to compose my own music for this short, and I started, but I am no composer, and it was a disaster. You can still hear a clip of it at the beginning of the film. mini/wink )

As for the snow, yes it was difficult. I used Baking Soda for snow, which doesn't get sticky over time, and doesn't blow away when you breathe, so that made it easier. But it did take quite a bit of patience (and re-takes) to get it right... I used a bit of masking now and again to repair a messed up portion of snow.

@DewFilms, I posted a Behind the Scenes shortly after you commented here. You can check it out on my blog if you wish. mini/smile http://rioforce.wordpress.com/2014/12/1 … uppy-love/

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

Hmm, now just where have I seen that reindeer design before?

Wonderful film, by the way. I liked the transition from day to night, as well as what everyone else said.

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

This is really nice.  It just makes me feel so warm and happy inside.  The animation is great--you've improved massively since BRAWL (wish I could say that about myself, haha).  The snow effect worked really well here, and felt surprisingly natural given that it's not LEGO.  Despite the dog piece having no points of articulation you managed to make it feel natural.  Also, that lighting is amazing, especially the night-time shots.  Wonderful job!

Wow, that was amazing.
The production values are high, and it fits this time of year perfectly.
It's also refreshing to see a film that doesn't rely on minifigs or dialog, yet still tells a complete and full story.

Yes, I admit, I used the reindeer design from LEGO Universe. But only because it's the most awesome reindeer design ever from the most awesome game ever!

I'm glad you like my film. mini/smile I chose the dog pieces for exactly that reason. I liked the simplicity of them, and the life they had in their faces. I wanted to make the movie feel like they were alive, while still retaining the feeling that they were toys (as if they were being played with by children).

Thanks for the kind words, Pritchard. I have always admired films that use no dialogue, but are still able to tell a story, so that is what I wanted to do with this film. mini/wink

This. This is why I devote my time to make films. This. Truly inspiring. You can't really tell from my films, but no dialogue films are like a good sermon to me(:

Great work on the animation, and I loved the depth of field pulls. Story was compelling and was told well. I must admit, the thing I was thinking the entire time was "I'd hate to clean all that 'snow' up."

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sorry I ruined it for you by using such a messy medium to distract you from the video. mini/tongue I cleaned most of it up on Friday. It was super messy, and still is. All of my bricks seem kind of gritty from the stuff, and my table too. Though, a damp cloth helps with cleanup, because since it Sodium Bicarbonate, the Co2 comes out of it with water (or something like that), which makes cleanup a bit better.

Re: Christmas Puppy Love

You could probably get rid of all the "grit" on your bricks by washing them with vinegar (or another weak acid, such as lemon juice) added to water.

I won't have to go to that extreme. Just some water with dish soap works well. It's mostly just leftover powder, and comes of nicely with normal soap.

Bsides. If you wash them with vinegar too much, it will be like acid to the plastic.
